David's Birthday

Friday was David's 33rd birthday. Yep, he's old. I used to be able to rub in that I was still a spring chicken, but once I hit 30 this year, that joke went out the window! lol!
He started out the afternoon bowling with his guy friends. In the evening we BBQ carne asada at our friends house. I made homemade refried beans with jalapeños and chorizo. I have to say, they were good. I also made rice BUT found out the hard way why a glass bowl should NOT be put on a hot burner. How did I find this out you ask?? Well, my beautiful batch of rice was in a large glass bowl. I set it on the stove so I could put in the second batch of rice, not realizing that I had turned on the wrong burner (old electric stove that does not turn red) and walked away. About 5 minutes later I heard a loud KABOOM and ran to the kitchen to find glass and rice everywhere. Needless to say, there was no rice at the taco party.

Being that this was David's birthday, the evening would not be complete without a Hold'em game....or two. Sadly, David and I lost both games but we had fun. Since poker was the them of the evening, David asked for a King of Spades cake. As the good book says, Ask and you shall receive! Let me just say, thank the Lord for edible images. There was no way I was going to be able to free hand the card. Isabella gave David an Angels t-shirt. She decided a month ago that the shirt was exactly what Daddy needed.
