Fall Into Reading Question #7

Is there a book that has had a tremendous impact on your life? One that made you look at life in a whole new way, or caused you to completely change something in your life?

For me, it is not one book but a series: Redemption Series by Karen Kingsbury. It follows a fiction family, the Baxter's, and how they deal with very real, modern day situations in a faithful, Christian way. I started reading the series when I first became a Christian and it showed me that it is very possible to live for God and to let his light shine in my daily actions and though processes.


I have since read most of Karen Kingsbury books and absolutely love them and find myself looking and my life and comparing it to the books. I always wonder if I would "fit in" as a Baxter.


Another amazing book is Between Sunday's, also by Karen Kingsbury. I makes you think about how you behave and the relationship you keep with God between Sunday's.

Fall Into Reading Question #4

How large is your personal/family collection of books? And where do you keep them?

Oops! I am totally doing this out of order & very late.

Our collection is not nearly big enough, although my husband would disagree. Bella and I have a few hundred books togehter. She keeps hers on the top shelf of her closet. I keep mine in the bottom half of what is supposed to be our linnen closet. I REALLY need to invest in a book shelf. I have visions of one day having an actually library with floor to ceiling shelves and I would have to have a rolling ladder. Picture the library the Beast gives Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

Fall Into Reading Question #6

When it comes to fiction, are you more of a “plot person” or a “character person”? If you had to choose, which concept would win out when it comes to picking and loving a book: plot or character?

I am a "character person" for sure. Plot is important but I can over look a poorly developed plot if I love the character. I think this is why I am drawn mostly to fictional series then stand alone books. If you look at my book list, it's mostly series. I had never really thought about it until now.

Do you skim? Or are you faithful to read every word?

I'll admit that, once upon a time I would skim occasionally. I have stopped doing that since I have started reading better books. Now I am so concerned that I will miss some little detail that will matter later in the story that I read every word.

Fall Into Reading Question #2 and #3

How often do you re-read books? What does it take to make you re-read?

I do not re-read books often. I usually have so many books waiting that I feel guilty reading something again. This does not mean I have never done it. For me to re-read a book, it has to be a book that completely transports me. It needs to be a story that, while reading it, causes me to "forget" who I really am and where I am. I need to feel like reality is temporary until I can get back to the story where I truly belong, and when the book ends, it needs to leave me yearning for more.

On what devices, if any, do you read books? Or are you strictly a “physical book” reader?

I am a physical book reader. I love the feel of the book in my hands, the smell of the paper, the sound the pages make when turned and the way they look sitting on the shelf.

I have always dreamed of having my own personal library ~ think of the library Beast gave Bell in Beauty and the Beast. That would make me a happy camper.

I'm not 100% against the various electronic readers, but I do not see myself owning one anytime soon. Not only do I love the feel of the physical book, I love spending hours walking up and down the isle in a book store. I love the excitement when I find a new book, take it off the shelf and into the nook of my arm and carry it to the register.

Oh the simple pleasures in life.......

Katrina at Callapidder Days host Fall Into Reading and on Wednesdays she post reading questions. Here is today's:

How much do book reviews influence your decision to acquire and/or read a book?

Not sure why but I do not read professional reviews. I do listen to people I know. Most of the books I read are from authors I'm already familiar with or are recommended by someone I now who has the same taste in books.

My favorite way to find new books is to walk up and down every isle at the book store and look for book covers that catch my eye. I the read the summary on the back and decide if I would like to read it. It is rare that I find a book I do not like. I have only not finished one book in all my years of reading. That book was Wicked.
