Muy Caliente

It has been hot here....really hot. We have been averaging 95+ the last week and it is making me miserable. I do not like the heat. I do not function well in the heat. I feel very lethargic, cranky and I get headaches...(please don't ask why I live in SoCal...it's not my choosing). So, with the heat wave we have been having, I have not run at all this week. I do have access to treadmill, but I will admit, running on one scares me. It feels so awkward and I feel as if I am going to fall off.

I know these are all excuses and I am going to have to suck it up and either embrace the heat, the treadmill or running at 4am. I would prefer to run at 4am but Bella does not like that idea. This week is a wash but tomorrow we have to figure something out.

As for Bella, she has been complaining of knee pain while running. Usually about 8 minutes in. I took her to the MD this week and she has a tight and inflamed IT band. yay...So she has been given a few stretches to do and will need to wear a band if the stretches do not do the trick.

Ok, I'm off to read running blogs so find some motivation and break out of this funk....

Dreading tomorrows weigh in also.....*sigh*

My first.....

Blister! I know this is not a good thing, but for some reason I was a little excited. It's a small blister on the side if my foot and I know it's because I wore the wrong socks, but I feel like I got a little cred.  I didn't run yesterday, but did go to the gym to strength train and then walked for an hour while Bella was at tennis practice. The blister hurt a little but was not bad.

We ran 9 min/1min 3x on Tuesday and it felt good. Still difficult, but good. Today, we are scheduled to move up to 10/1 x 2 & end with a 8 min run. Bella has been complaining of her knee bothering her at about 8 minutes in. I'm not sure if its because she is tired and wants us to stop or if there really is a problem. I'm going to take her to her MD to get checked out just in case.

So far, our eating plan has been staying on track with not eating out and cooking at home. I know we need to clean up what we are making, but one step at a time.

90's?!?! Seriously????

It was in the mid-90's today!! I hate loathe the heat. I know, I live in SoCal..it gets hot. I beg David all the time to move north. So far, no dice. So, in the mean time, I'm going to complain, stomp my feet and pout.

One of the reasons I dislike the high temps so much is it almost always guarantees I will have a headache. Doesn't matter how much I hydrate. Today was no exception. Thankfully, it was minor and we still went out on our run today.

Actually, today probably did not qualify as a run. Maybe a shuffle or stumble along is more accurate. Today we moved up to 5 minutes of "running" with 1 minute of walking repeated 5 times. We went out at about 5pm hoping it would be cool enough. *wrong*. I think we will have to go a little later on these warm days.

The first segment felt pretty good and I thought "wow 5 minutes is not so bad". On the second segment, I started to get a cramp in my upper left abdominal area and that area felt rock hard. David offered to end the run and head home, but I was so determined to finish. By segment 4 it was gone but boy did I need to pee but of course by the time I got home, the urge was gone. Why is that. It seems even if I go before we leave the house, I always have the urge during the run and then it stops by the end of the run. I guess I have one more running fact to Google.

Tomorrow is another run day of the same segments. I think we will head out closer to 7pm. We'll see how it goes.

Trudging along

Today we ran 4 minutes and walk 1 minute 6x. Again, it was not easy but it seemed easier than the run 1 walk 2. Bella said it is because we are only counting 6 segments instead of 10 segments.

This week we have also done really well on eating. We cooked every night. This afternoon, we went to Marie Callender's and we still did good. I ordered off the lighter menu and had the roasted vegetable pasta and it was scrumptious!! I even have some wiggle room in my calorie count. I may have a few bites of ice cream.....

I have been reading a TON of running blogs and magazines and am really starting to get the itch to sign up for a race. We are planning on running a 5k fun run in June but I think we need to sign up for a 10k at the end of the summer. Something that will keep us motivated and excited.

Tomorrow is my weigh in day. I am hoping for 198....we shall see....

Running/walking

This week has been a bit busy. Bella had a state report due on Wednesday and decided to start it on Monday. ggrrrr. We still managed to get all of our runs in but she missed walking on Tuesday. We have also kept up with not eating our, which was rather hard this week. We did not plan ahead as well this week and on more than one occasion thought about eating out. No matter how tired I was, I was glad I cooked at home and did not have to go to bed feeling guilty about what we ate. Even though we are eating at home, we are still not eating as clean as we should. On our taco Tuesday, we made fish taco's. They were scrumptious!

This week we were supposed to move to 1 minute of walking and 2 minutes of running on Sunday and keep adding a minute of running each day.....yea right!! We decided to do a week of 2 minutes of running and will move to 3 next week. The jump from 1 minute to 2 minutes was really hard.

We have also started stretching (as we should have from the beginning) and it is helping. My heel/ankle is still very sore most of the time. Almost like it is bruised. Joy.

Running & NASCAR

Today. I was lucky enough to attend the NASCAR Sprint Cup race a Fontana Auto Club Speedway. A friends mom had 4 tickets with pit passes. I am a huge Dale Jr. fan and love to watch the races. Because we had pit passes, we were able to be on the infield for driver introducations. Unfortunately, when Jr. was announced, Kyle Bush ran out, trying to be funny and I ended up only getting a side pic of Jr.

The weather was mild and out seats were in the shade so I was able to keep from getting burned. This is my 3rd race in 4 years and every time Jr has a bad day and my least favorite driver, #18 Kyle Bush, has a good day. I'm starting to think it's a sign I should watch from home. One highlight from today was Rutledge Wood tweeted me....*faint*

Now according to my Fitbit, I earned 9000 steps walking around the track and pit lanes. When I got home, the hubby, kid and I went out for day 5 of our running program.

Today we increased our run time to 2 minutes and decreased our walk to 1 minute. IT WAS HARD, but we did it and were high-fiving each other at the end. I have to say, none of us are looking forward to increasing to 3 minutes on Tuesday. I am noticing that my heels/ankles are a little stiff after a run/walk. I need to get better and stretching and my muscle tone.

Running Day 4 and Disneyland

First, Friday weigh-in...200.5!!! I have not seen this number in years. I now weigh what I did the day I gave birth to Bella. To most, this would be depressing but I'm seeing it as a victory. Next goal: to see the number beginning with a 1.

Friday was supposed to be a run/walk day but ended up being walking only because Bella and I spent the day at Disneyland in celebration for my birthday.

On the way to Disneyland, I stopped at Target and bought myself a present....the Fitbit Flex. I was so excited to track my steps through out Disneyland. I charged the Fitbit on the way and once we got parked, I downloaded the app and sat in the car for 15 minutes waiting for my phone to "find" the device and it couldn't...dun dun dun... I have been having this problem with my iphone and bluetooth devices. I have tried every troubleshooting idea I can find and nada, SOOO, today I synced it to my computer but of course nothing from yesterday was there. *sigh*

At Disneyland I splurged a bit.....everything is 1/2 the calories inside Disneyland though....right?!?!
Anyhoo, Bella and I had lunch at the Blue Bayou and it was scrumptious. It was pricey but it was worth it because I was able to order real, not fried-over processed crap....that would be for dinner, hehe

Actually, at dinner we did order chicken nugget and fish n' chips. I ate 2 fish pieces and about got sick. It tasted disgusting...I guess your tastes do change the more healthy you eat. Before, I would have devoured my fish n'chips.

Because I spent so much time messing with the Fitbit and my phone just plain has issues, I only have 2 pictures from our day.....of course they are of Bella....(I need a camera).

Today is a rest day, I my back could not be more happy.
